In CrossFit training, the highs and lows can sometimes feel like a rollercoaster ride. However, harnessing the power of momentum, built through consistent effort, can transform these highs and lows into significant progress.
When we think of CrossFit, it’s easy to envision the gruelling WODs and heavy lifts. But dig a little deeper, and it’s the behind-the-scenes consistency that crafts champions. Take, for instance, Jamie, the owner of Bua and a veteran CrossFit competitor in his own right. Jamie didn’t achieve his deadlift PR overnight. It was months of consistent effort, turning up, grinding day in, and day out that made the difference.
Consistency is more than just repetitively showing up—it’s about purposefully moving forward, tweaking routines, and staying committed to goals, especially when motivation wanes. Elaine, one of our most experienced CrossFit coaches and our Bua gym manager, observed, “Those who break barriers are not necessarily the strongest but the most consistent. They ride the momentum wave.”
Building momentum is like a snowball rolling down a hill. At first, the changes seem minuscule, almost unnoticeable. However, with each consistent effort, the snowball grows, picks up speed, and before you know it, you’re riding a wave of progress.
But, how can one maintain this momentum, especially during inevitable slumps?
Remember, consistency doesn’t mean a lack of flexibility. Life happens, and there will be days when you’re not at your best. The key is to jump back in, tap into that momentum, and ride the wave.
